Maybe for families, not for us

We chose RMSV because when we first came to Samui five years ago, we stayed here and loved it. Then there was a change in management and the prices skyrocketed. We haven't been back since. We decided to bite our lip and pay the nightly rate for nostalgia. It is true, you cannot go home again. PROS: On Choeng Mon beach, still a relatively hidden gem. Lovely spa albeit pricey these days. Excellent breakfast. CONS: Greeted by white guys from Europe. One of the signatures of RMSV was its Thai charm and hospitality - gone. Ice water as a welcome drink? No more welcome rides to the villas. Staff does not seem as happy as before. Stupid rule where your curtains facing the main walkway must be closed at night. For families, it seems like a good choice if the rates don't scare you. But having stayed around Samui, for couples, there are far better and more reasonable choices.

Perfect beach, great big room
