A huge but useless swimming pool

The hotel probably gets a higher reviews than it deserves as it is a family resort largely with visitors on a two week annual leave. I booked full board only to find that the lunch and dinner were very much on restricted menus. I was given vouchers for myself and my partner and a child’s card for my four year old and lectured not to misplace it as it would not be replaced. The drink prices were exorbitant, a beer, and a couple of soft drinks costing around 800 baht (USD 23). On one meal we were asked “water’ to which I said yes, only to find that it was not only not free but was Evian for which they charged 400 baht (USD 12). I found that the hotel took the opportunity of cashing in at every opportunity. No free Wi-Fi here; one of the remaining few establishments which still charge. The cost for room Wi-Fi was 400 baht a day or 1,600 for five days. On arrival I found that room had not been checked over; the control apparatus was not functioning, the water in the bathroom sink and shower was not draining properly. The swimming pool is huge and is deeper than what is normal, 6.6 ft. and has no gradient; probably the reason why it is virtually empty most of the time while there are several hundred guests present. Certainly not suitable for play or for children (except the pool for infants) The sea was extremely rough and totally unsuitable for swimming. My visit was in October; I do not have knowledge of other times. When I left the room one afternoon I left the keycard in the slot as I required to have the electric kept on to recharge my iPad. Upon returning the afternoon housekeeping had not only removed the key but “confiscated” it. Like a naughty schoolboy I had to formally request another. All in all, this is not IMO a five star hotel.. The hotel may be fine for the two weeks a year guests who like to be controlled but I found that I was stressed out with their school-run-like attitude.
