Pros and Cons (From a 10 time stayer in this part of the island)

Pros: Lovely quiet location, away from everything. Big pool, some rooms with pool access. Wine selection was decent, though pricey (to be expected). Nice staff.
Cons: The food should be better. From being given cold sticky toffee pudding (and having to explain that it should be hot, 3 times...), having Pavlova with the taste of garlic (cross-contamination) and all round mediocre mains.
Room upgrade was disappointing, and later, felt like it might be a strategy for filling their older crappier (though larger and with pool view) rooms. If you book a deluxe garden room because of its modern interior, don't accept an upgrade to a premier room with pool view (old interior).
Conclusion: Stay at the Pullman Naithon (a few km away and part of the same footprint taken up by the national park). The rooms are better, food is better, the views are better, the beach is better - Marriot is in a bay with very low tide and no waves. Pullman is on a cliff and facing west so the waves are great.
