The first major surprise was the size of the beach, although it is long (as the name suggests) it is almost non existent during high tide. During the time we were there this was everyday, during the whole morning until about 3pm. I can't say what it was like for other places on Phi Phi Don or at other times of the year but I was certainly surprised after all the reviews of how good the beach are. we stayed at the beginning of July, which is in the middle of the wet season and the seas were rough, very rough. The waves on the beach were very big and incessant and the sand certainly isn't one of the nicest I've encountered. We didn't have the breakfast that they serve at the resort, we were told it was 150bht but not sure what was on offer. We only found two places to eat dinner along the entire beach, one pretty much at either end. The resort next door (pearl something ?) does very nice food, with good service and very reasonable prices, especially for Phi Phi. The other restaurant is significantly more expensive and at the far end from Blu Sky. Getting to the resort was a little tricky as well, due to the rough seas the taxi boats wouldn't go all he way to long beach, instead dropping you about 5 minutes from the pier (we paid 150bht each, for four people but haggle and get it for no more than 100bht each) . This leaves the last bit to be done on foot and it's tricky with luggage. Happily one of the staff met us unexpectedly and helped us with our backpacks. You can quite comfortably walk into town in about 20 and it's quite a nice coastal walk. They do suffer from frequent power cuts but I think most of Phi Phi does and our toilet and shower broke which was immediately tended to by a staff member.
