Cheap and cheerful.
The Chaweng Beach Hotel is a no frills hotel and is a good spot if you are looking for something clean and cheap in Samui. There is no pool and no restaurant. A small breakfast offered, but I went for brekkie at the cafe down the road instead. The staff was really nice and they spoke English well enough that there was no confusion when checking in/out or when I had questions. The room was big and clean, a bit out dated but for the price totally acceptable. Internet is an extra cost and worked well, it's not the greatest but it's certainly not terrible either. They have a security guard at night as do most of the hotels in in the area. There is a taxi stand right outside of the hotel if you need a ride somewhere or back to the airport.
The only thing that I found slightly odd was payment with credit card. I ended up booking another 2 nights there and payed directly to the hotel. They made it seem like the credit card machine was not working, but it was as I insisted on paying by credit card. If they ask you to pay cash, or go to the cash machine across the street.. don't. The machine works. I assume they prefer cash rather than paying the credit card fees.
Overall, a great experience!
