Adequate hotel on the Mekong River

The Namkhong was a nice hotel on the Mekong River with good views. There were a few downsides - we were travelling with our 2 children and booked a room they advertised on Agoda that could accommodate 4 people, but when we arrived after a 7 hour bus trip from Chiang Mai, they told us they only had double rooms and we had to pay for another room for the kids. Needless to say I got the second double room free but I had to have a massive fight with the manager. So be aware if you take up the 4 person room option on Agoda that this room category DOES NOT EXIST at this hotel. The pillows on the bed were rock hard, needed like 6 Thai massages to undo the neck soreness after that. The other pain was that this hotel is next to the town karaoke bar and it is really loud til after midnight when we were there. This was unbearable as the singing was crap. Plus, the Laos Government blare music and propaganda from the other side of the river from 6am to 7am when we were there. Maybe select another hotel away from the karaoke joint if you value your sleep.
