Quiet and a bit isolated, but comfortable
We booked for three nights here, admittedly after a couple other resorts I checked were full. We ended up staying only two nights as we had to return to Bangkok early, but we enjoyed the time we were there. This is a nice small inn, but well appointed and fairly new. The staff (mainly Italian family) were attentive and obviously cared about your comfort. The first night there, I had ordered a bouquet of flowers for my wife's birthday, and after we had a pretty good Italian pasta dinner at a table next to the pool, they brought out a HUGE bunch of red roses along with a small cake followed by some great sorbet. Nicely done.
The breakfast was adequate and tailored to the European palate, but there was certainly enough to eat, along with fresh, good fruit. The rooms were clean and new, but lacking screens on the windows, forcing us to use the aircon instead of fighting mosquitos. The bed was good and I slept well.
The resort is located a fair hike away from the beach, but a bit of driving around and we found the main Thung Wa Len beach area, which is crowded with small shops, small hotels and a public access beach. The beach itself was great and there are a few restaurants right on the beach that look good, and we ate a good Thai dinner at the Clean Wave resort restaurant -- good food right on the beach with cool breeze coming in. Unfortunately, due to leaving early, we missed partaking of the much-ballyhooed pizza baked in the owner's wood-fired pizza oven, with all you can eat for 250 baht per person (about $8).
When we asked for some suggestions about sightseeing around Chumphon, the owner gave some very good suggestions and great directions.
All-in-all, a good experience and well recommended in this area of Thailand that is still being discovered by tourists.
