could have been better
this is a case of might have been. most of the things you would say about the place have a but in the sentence. the reception area is nice but there was often no receptionist or if they were there they were not much help. when i wanted to check out of the hotel the reception was empty for 15-20 mins. i guess the fact that the receptionist left his 2 phones and laptop there unattended means it is a low crime area! the rooms have a kitchen area but minimal equipment, none of which matches. there is a tv but only three english language channels and one of those in black and white. they lend dvds for free, but they rent you the player (for b100 - which is cheap, but somehow petty when the room is not cheap). the location is great - up a small alley and very quiet, esp. for that area, but this does mean that taxis and tuk tuks struggle to find it. the receptionist called three times to the taxi company without being prompted because the cab took 35 mins to arrive but his limited english meant he couldn't, or was too shy to try and, explain what was happening. the best thing about the room was a great shower - good water pressure and hot water, but the towels were small and tired. they have a laundry room which is useful for longer term travellers but 3 out of 4 machines were broken. there were newspapers in the reception but they were all from march 2012 and earlier (i.e. 10 months old!). basically it felt like someone had gone to a lot of trouble to build a nice place and then run it on a shoestring - i felt they just didn't care.
shame - it has the potential to be be great, but....
