We kind of went out on a limb with 137 Pillars House because there were only a couple reviews for it on Tripadvisor. How pleased we were! Since we were on Honeymoon, they upgraded us to one of their master suites, which was very nice. We stayed at two other hotels on our honeymoon (Shangri La Bangkok and Imperial Adamas Phuket), and 137 Pillars was tied with the Shangri La for our favorite.
What can I say? We loved 137! Some of the highlights:
1) Beautiful, modern elegance. A classic teak wood building next to modern grounds and a 30-foot vine wall and infinity pool make this hotel look very modern, yet classically elegant.
2) Very friendly and attentive staff.
3) Wonderful breakfast. They even had some boxed up and waiting for us when we left the hotel at 5 in the morning one day.
4) Very nice rooms, and ABSOLUTELY THE MOST COMFORTABLE BED we slept on during our trip, and maybe in our lives.
5) Our room had a nice ipod dock and music playing when we arrived. Seems like a little thing, but it was very nice. There were also lots of interesting books in the room for us to read.
Con:
1) Location- it's on the far side of the river and a bit of a drive to down town. Most tuk-tuks would accept 100 baht ($3 USD), which is no big deal, but a lot of drivers didn't now the hotel when you asked them to take you there.
2) Exercise room left a little to be desired.
