railay: a nice beach but ....

The hotel was actually up to my expectation, being one of the cheapest hotels in the area it is actually not a bad value for money. But for 1200thb a night, you would have so much better option off railay. I would recommend to traveler to come to railay for a day trip and stay somewhere else. It is not like you will miss much as dinner options and nightlife is not great...
The rooms could use a bit more maintenance (my toilet leaked, my friend's toilet leaked next door, his wash basin was not well fixed to the wall, a piece of the bed was broken...). You need to ask reception for your room to be cleaned and it is done in 3 minutes top so cleaning is pretty minimal. I doubt the shower has ever been cleaned thoroughly with bathroom products... it is clean on the surface with water but the tap is black with old stains if you know what I mean. The bed is confortable and clean, towels are changed on demand at the reception. The swimming pool does not have much shade but it is still ok for a quick dip. The manager was very nice to me and offered to change room to get a ground floor one when he saw I had a baby with me. Upstairs room was a bit of a struggle with the pushchair so I was very happy he offered without me even asking! The happy hour is the best value we found around with 2 cocktails for 180thb. Take the same cocktail on railay west it will cost you 150 per cocktail...
Railay as a destination is not my favorite in Thailand, there are 2 beautiful beaches, yes but the food in the area is the worst I have found in Thailand. We were a group of friends and 8 out of 10 got food poisoning in the 5 days we were there. We actually never ate in Railay Seaview Resort so cannot comment about the food there... Breakfast was ok with on demand eggs, toast, very strong coffee. There was also some thai dishes, ham and sausages, which I didn't fancy...
