Rantee is quite far from Tonsai, the main Island hub. We had to stay there one night because the owners had forgotten to book us. As a 'compensation' they fixed us in a cheap accomodation. At three in the morning a naked drunk male teenager broke into our room, and was about as terrorized as we were when realizing it was us and not them... Yes, Tonsai is 100% teenage destination and also (not necesseraly as a consequence) an open aur sewage.
Eventually we made it to Rantee, our (inaccurate) calculation was that being remote we would have less noise. At least the crowd there was more pleasan but the noise of electrogenerators was unbearable. During the day on the beach (for the restaurants) and during the night uphill, in short no sleep and no siesta. The owner was very unfriendly about this. He also insisted on running a mostly empty beach bar with Nirvana music in loop. I like Nirvana, but after 6 hours Non stop, I usualy feel suicidal.
The rooms were not good, very hot, a bit shabby, with dark bathrooms that could not be used during the day for lack of electricity (no you don't want to poke in the dark....)
The beach would have been nice, but the coral, supposed to be one of the best, is dying and whitening in most places. This is probably a consequence of the boats passing by and leaving a cloud of smoke. They pass at full speed 10 to 20 meters away from the cost. We counted about 2 per minute. At night it is only about 5 an hour, just enough so that you wake up every half hour.
A terrible hotel in a terrible island. But who cares? Tourists will come anyway, no?
