Coming into the place reminded me of the hospital Rick wakes up in on the walking dead. There’s plant pots down the side with no plants, only cigarette butts and gravel. There’s stains on the floor and walls just about everywhere. We asked to move rooms as there was a suspicious looking brown stain right on the wall, deliberately covered by the pillow. The bellboy came up with a wet flannel, and unenthusiastically tried to scrub it away, to no avail. After insisting we’d like to move to room, he left without a word. We gathered our bags and left to find that he was nowhere to be seen. About five minutes later he scopped back up and showed us to our new room. The pillows were horrifically stained and the sheet had spots of blood and what I assumed to be coffee. After lying on the bed for 20 minutes my girlfriend proclaimed she was itchy. Following some swift googling we found that blood spots are a sign of bed bugs. We left and found a travel agency across the street and booked ourselves a ferry for the morning. We stayed awake all night, refusing to lie on the bed, even if we had wanted to sleep, the bar beneath our windows (which we physically couldn’t close) had live music until about half one in the morning.
I’ve not regretted a single thing we’ve done on this holiday, but that hotel is the exception
