Khaolak Orchid Beach Resort
Good place to stay, lower cost, 3-4 star hotel with two wings, older wing and newer wing. Good simple breakfast buffet, changes every other day. Clean rooms, large clean pool(s). Smaller pool as well next to new wing. Right on the beach as well. No chairs from hotel on beach, but provide umbrellas, towels and mats. Chairs can be rented from stand next door. Food in restaurant/bars good but a little expensive for dinner. Can reach other restaurants hotels by walking down the beach for 20-30 minutes, up the beach for 40-50 minutes. Hotel is isolated, so if you want nightlife, not the place for you. Very quiet, peaceful, great beach, gardens and pool area. Good staff, friendly. Shuttle runs from hotel every two hours early in day, every hour in afternoon and every 1/2 hr in evening. Need bicycle, scooter or taxi to get to khaolak center as it is approx 6 km one way from hotel. Can rent scooters in town (250 baht per day) and bicycles (100 baht per day). This area is still rebuilding as this area was hit with 10m of tsunami water in 2004. Markers and signs are everywhere along this beach and hotel area.
