Costa Lanta is a hidey-hole--small, cosy and surprisingly comfortable. The service is friendly and professional, and the food is of reasonable standard. The rooms are on the tiny side-- with the mosquito net down, there isn't enough room to walk without touching the mosquito net. However the bed is luxuriously HUGE, and the covers warm and comfy. Whilst we were there, it rained every night, typical tropical storms, but we were kept cosy under the duvet. The toilet is spartan but has enough facilities to keep one comfortable. Loved the rain shower. Our WC malfunctioned on one of the days and couldn't be flushed, but we informed the staff and the problem was fixed within 3 hours.
Loads of complaints about the mosquitos documented in previous reviews, but I have to say that I only was bitten once during the trip whilst in the hotel vicinity. The staff are diligently dedicated to spraying the room every day at 6pm before lowering the mosquito nets, and I found that works. The hotel also thoughtfully provides mosquito repellent lotion, and there is a plugged-in repellent in the bedroom.
We spent most of our time either lounging on the beach (which is semi-private, a big plus--it's relatively peaceful most of the time, which makes for a wonderful time tanning or catching up with leisure reading), or exploring the town, which is a 5 minute tuk-tuk ride away.
In summary, Costa Lanta is a semi-luxury boutique hotel, you get what you pay for. It's posh enough to enjoy yourself comfortably (unless you are high maintenance!), and we had a fantastic time.
