Decent Value Right Off the Beach
needed a location close to kata beach resort for king's cup sailboat race. kata poolside fit the bill perfectly. not the cheapest place but decent value. room was big and air was strong. nice after a hot day on the boats. poolside was nothing spectacular and swim up bar looked long unused and the heyday has passed. couple of new places being built next door may start out with better ammenities. no bar but restaurant at the front of the hotel had absolutely excellent dinner. we went for a couple of grilled fish and garlic stir fried squid was awesome. breakfast is nothing to write home about - go find two chefs or do something on the beach. nice to have 7-11 and another convenience store a couple of steps down the street. paid for internet in the room is so 1990's although in my room i received front desk wireless of almost 20mps - although only a matter of luck. bathroom was workable with decent tub but relatively small shower. i asked for extra bottled water but was denied - weird policy. phone in the room broke down a couple of times and the room safe also broke down a couple of times. kata seems heavily populated with russians - no problem with that. the beach is very nice and probably a good couples and kids venue. no where near the craziness off patong. so all in all, big room, strong aircon and location sum up this hotel.
