wonderful rooms, great gardens
I stayed 2 nights at a Ocean View Plus Villa. The room itself was wonderful, spacious with great attention to detail and a spectacular private pool overlooking the beautiful bay.
The thai food in the restaurant was nice, but since I have been living in Bangkok for the past 4 years, I've had better. However, it was absolutely adequate. The international food I tried on the second night (pizza and risotto) unfortunately was substandard. Breakfast buffet was good, as can be expected from a hotel with such standards.
In general, the service was attentive and friendly, but I was missing a certain attentiveness that I would get from similar hotels that belong to an international chain. I guess all the management is Thai which unfortunately proves to be an issue sometimes (I worked in the hospitality industry myself for a long time so I know what to look for and what to expect).
The thing that really upset me is that they charge 1500 baht for a pickup from the pier. I believe that when a guest pays 400+ dollars per night, the transfer HAS to be included. I discussed this in length with the GM before I arrived but still they insisted on charging. In the end I decided to take a cab for 1200. It's not about the money (I spent more than 10K on room service and dinner) but for me just a principle. I never had to pay for the transfer at such room prices.
In general I have to say, the stay was very nice, spectacular rooms and gardens and I enjoyed it a lot, however I believe there is still room for improvement.
