Great hotel on beach, huge pool & rooms, 1st class
the montra was a last minute "save" from an issue at a small boutique hotel where the aircon failed two nights in a row. i really wish i booked the montra first.
the montra is a large, full-service hotel and their aircon works. they have two huge pools and a oversized jacuzzi with a swim-up bar. the hotel is also located right on the mad haad beach.
the breakfast and restaurant was really good. the food tasted excellent, it was hot, fresh, and everything was clean. the service was excellent and the staff (actual thais, not burmese) are friendly. dinner was also reasonably priced. they bake their own bread, so there are great smells all day long.
the town is less than a minute away with lots of shops and other restaurants too.
the room was large, the bed was much bigger than a normal king-size bed, and the bathroom had separate oversized tub and walk-in shower, commode in separate room as well.
i loved this place, it was simply awesome.
my only complaint is the number of stairs. in some places you go up to go down and there seems no reason for the additional steps at all.
[i noticed some reviews condemning the restaurant. i found the restaurant clean. this is thailand and you are in the tropics. the restaurant is open walls, so it is open to the world. there are insects, but the staff seemed to take great care to keep things clean, to cover food and have protective screens in place. by thai standards, the restaurant was well above par.]
