Nice hotel, perfect location, but a bit old
The Surin Phuket hotel is perfectly located in Surin beach, with direct beach access. The hotel has recently gone through some renovations, but surprisingly the design and construction still feel "old". Certain aspects are great (e.g., direct beach access, gym, each room is independent/quiet), but others are disappointing, such as the small swimming pool or some of the uncomfortable outdoor furniture. If Surin Phuket really went through a major renovation (as we were told by the hotel), the result is a bit disappointing.
However, food was absolutely top notch: from the buffet breakfast, to the Thai restaurant to the Italian restaurant: all of it was absolutely outstanding.
Staff is generally very friendly, unfortunately reception staff was clueless when asked about suggestions for restaurants outside of the hotel. It's a pity, as they seem to be willing to help, but lack basic training. We kept bumping into a trainee left alone at reception, and each time we asked a question she had to disappear in the back to ask for some help from a more senior colleague.
