Not value for money

Thongtapan Resort is meant to be the budget option on Thong Nai Pan beach and as such we didn't expect any luxury. However, reality still fell short of our expectations.
We had booked the 'Superior Beachfront' room for four nights. Alas, there was nothing superior about it. It had no bed-side tables, no TV and no WiFi. I am not saying that all these are absolutely necessary, but in the 'best' and most expensive room of a self-styled beach resort I would expect to find at least a bed-side table. We had previously stayed in other, far cheaper budget hotels around Thailand that included such 'amenities' as standard.
To make matters worse, there was water seeping out of the bathroom wall, clearly a sign of bad maintenance. But what really did it for us is the fact that there wasn't even a handsoap to wash our hands. At first we thought that maybe they had forgotten to give us one but when we asked we were told to go buy one from the village shop, implying it was really cheap. If it's so cheap then why not just provide one? It's hardly a luxury amenity nowadays I should think.
The room aside, the whole resort gave out a feeling of neglect and abandonment. We also tried out the food at the restaurant and we found it substandard and overpriced.
On the second day we talked to one of the staff about our dissatisfaction and our intention to cut our stay short, hoping that we would be offered some sort of compensation. Needless to say, we didn't receive any but we decided to check out and leave nevertheless.
To sum things up, Thongtapan is not the worst hotel ever. They should however brand themselves as a no-frills bungalows type of accommodation and not a Resort. Stay there only if you are on a really tight budget and don't mind staying at a very very basic accommodation.
