Value, location for shopping and nightlife.

I stayed 6 nights and spent most of the time out of the hotel walking around Patong's streets and shopping centres. Room was a good size and bed was large and comfortable. The TV was an old-fashioned CRT type with a grainy picture which I find unusual in this day and age. There was no sofa or chair in the room but the small balcony had two plastic garden chairs and a table. The air-con never seemed to get to a point where you would want to switch it off. It only ever got the room cool but not cold no matter how many hours you ran it (I left it on all night) and the outside temperature was no more than 30 degrees C. The bathroom had the toilet, washbasin and shower area. After each shower I had to use the (supplied) squeegee to sweep the water away from the door back to the drain hole because of the insufficient gradient in the floor. The number of tv channels was plenty at over 80 though only around 10 are in English. I was on the 3rd floor (ground being the 1st floor) of 5 and for some reason my room didn't get made up until late in the afternoon. The hotel is located at the start of Nanai Road and is surrounded by other similar small hotels, day tour businesses, moped hire, laundries and 7-11s. But it is a busy access road to the town centre and with the curtains drawn open can get quite noisy. Access to the town is just 10-15 minutes walk. Before town you will encounter the Muay Thai Thai boxing stadium and Jung Ceylon shopping centre which has shops, restaurants, cafes and a multi-screen cinema. One drunken night I paid 300THB for a tuk tuk ride back to the hotel when it should only have been 100. In fact even drunk I could have walked it in less than 20 minutes. I would stay again if I could get a better tv with better reception and a cosy armchair.
