Pleasant resort on beautiful beach

We arrived late and the reception was closed but the receptionist was waiting to check us in. However, they had lost one of our groups' bookings. They did sort it out but it meant our friends had to move rooms twice during their stay which was very inconvenient. The hotel is right on the beach but some of the rooms are up a bit of a steep hill. The rooms are simple but comfortable (a/c which wasn't needed, hot shower which was). For Thailand they were quite expensive for the standard of room but I believe that is a reflection of the beach and the fact that most of the other hotels are big resorts. It was a beautiful beach but did feel like it was full of package tourists - not really my thing. The staff at the hotel were great - very friendly and helpful. The food was decent but not great - apart from the bbq which was very good.
