Perfect launching point for the Mekong slow boat

Most people skip Chiang Khong, departing from Chiang Mai or Rai before dawn to get to the border in time for their boat. We are really glad we stayed the night in Chiang Khong and really glad we chose the lovely simply Day Waterfront. It's basic but it has all you need, and Kai and Lao were attentive and caring hosts. They provided the Laos visa application forms and we filled them in under their guidance, and made the morning border crossing much easier. All rooms at the hotel have five-star views of the beguiling Mekong, and there's a lovely footpath along the river right outside the hotel. It was all just delightful

Excellent all round.
